Batam, Indonesia (July 9, 2020) — New outbreaks of COVID-19 have emerged as the world reopens. Indonesia is the worst-hit country in South-east Asia, with over 75,000 COVID-19 cases and over 3,600 deaths recorded as of 13 July 2020. The Indonesian government has since launched a risk-zone map for COVID-19 in Indonesia. The cities and regencies are color coded into 4 main colors – red zones – areas with high rates of transmission, orange zones – areas with medium risk of infection, yellow zones – low-risk areas and green zones – either completely free of the disease or have not recorded any new cases in four weeks, with a 100 percent recovery rate of patients.
Batam is classified as an orange zone and this has impacted the city’s ability to fully reopen and for its economic activities to be in full swing. To better control the spread of COVID-19, the government has reached out to several businesses in Batam for urgent need of medical supplies and PPE for the healthcare workers and frontliners.
As an entity operating in the local community, Interplex is doing our part by donating face masks, face shields and testing kits to healthcare workers and frontliners in Batam. We are proud to support these people who are protecting the community and we share the same hope for Batam to successfully contain COVID-19 and be classified as a green zone.
